Preface: remember to call your parents. In fact you should do it right now, rather than reading this post even.
I’ve been thinking about how wonderful life can be with the gift of great parents and how their absence can be felt throughout one’s life.
Good parenting is fairly arduous. A lot of doors close for you, but many new ones open up and take their place. You realize how deep the well of care is by becoming a parent. You are given the gift to transmute energy out of nowhere to care for others. It stays with you. You hear the cries of other children differently. You gain a new vigilance and fidelity of the emotions and needs of others.
In life, I owe a great many things to my own parents. I think of how much I take for granted because their parenting is almost like ambience in the background like a well filled with stability and support. I could draw whenever I need. I would not be the person I am without.
