good corporate writing
how to not sound like corporate memphis
I’ve noticed an increase in people writing in professional contexts. Most of this writing is unappealing to me. There’s some corporate new media that is actually well done, where the content and quality is tasteful and could stand alone on its own.
My media diet has changed over the years. I spent a few years reading 1-3M words/yr. One of the benefits is I can discern what’s worth reading.
Some of the best “corporate/business/technology-adjacent” writing is coming out of a handful of places.

Colossus magazine writes wonderful profiles of founders/companies: https://colossus.com/article/inside-notion/
Acquired, which is a podcast, but in-depth profiles of companies/industries which are well done.
Aside from these, the best writing for tech/business people is stuff like worksinprogress.co
The thing that distinguishes this content is it can stand-alone as quality writing, that’s well researched and thought through. It just happens to be subsidized by a corporation or institution. There’s a huge divide between people who build the content first (also applies to communities, events) and people who have a content-sized hole they need to fill like the person who swears they have a book in them.
